Easiest Way to Make Appetizing Filipino pancit

Filipino pancit. After always relying on my Filipino neighbors for pancit, I decided to try to make my own. This was the first pancit recipe I tried and I loved it. I made it again using a different recipe (I couldn't find this one again), and it wasn't nearly as good.

Filipino pancit This is one of my favorites! And this first post is the story, in pictures, of Filipino Pancit. Pancit Canton, Pancit Bihon, an Bam-i are all varieties of a stir-fried noodle dish that make for some very happy birthdays at CSC. You can have Filipino pancit using 11 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Salamat kaayo, many thanks, to sweet Auntie Febe (pictured below) for teaching me how to make this. Pancit bihon or "Pansit" is a Chinese-Filipino food dish and one of the variety of Pancit Guisado recipes that I love to cook. This pansit bihon is the commonly requested recipe of my children specially my youngest daughter because she really love pancit or any noodle recipe. Filipino pancit as a recipe is a little confusing, as it is the name of the dish and also one of the ingredients.

Filipino pancit instructions

  1. Drizzle olive oil into a medium or large size pan on med heat; then saute chicken until it's white (approx 2 min). Set aside..
  2. Clean same pan used for chicken. Drizzle olive oil into pan then saute onions for about a minute then add the garlic until fragrant (approx 30 sec)..
  3. Add celery and carrots for about 5 min..
  4. Add green beans and cabbage and cook for another 5 min..
  5. Lower the heat to simmer for the next 20 min..
  6. While the vegetables are simmering, boil approx 2 qts of water in a large pot. Place rice sticks in the boiling water for 3 min. Remove from boiling water and placing in the simmering vegetables..
  7. Place bean vermicelli in boiling water for 3 min. Then drain and place in simmering vegetables..
  8. Gradually add 32 oz of chicken broth to the vegetables and noodles while it continues to simmer to allow for the noodles to slowly absorb..
  9. Add the cooked chicken that was set aside and mix well..
  10. Constantly mix well until the rest of the ingredients are cooked (approximately another 10 min)..

Pancit is the word for noodles and to add to the confusion there are different types of pancit, with pancit Canton—egg noodles, pancit Bihon—rice noodles and pancit Miki—thick egg noodles. The flavor is just right and if it isn't what you've had before then it's just an adjustment of ingredients. The Filipino Pancit recipe I've enjoyed the most has been made with thin rice noodles called Bihon. It's really Chinese rice vermicelli and you can find many varieties of it inside every Asian market. The packaging will usually have a S, M, L or even XL somewhere on it.
